Situated in the heart of Vienna’s Old Town, the Graben Hotel Hotel is a family-owned establishment offering old-fashioned hospitality, but modern amenities and services.
While certainly not lacking in modern amenities, the 56 rooms are furnished with charming art nouveau pieces that give them a timeless classical feel. Each features en-suite bathroom with hairdryer, air conditioning, minibar, TV with satellite channels, in-room safe, telephone and free Wi-Fi.
Graben Hotel has a charming club-like lounge, situated just off the restaurant, which is the ideal place to meet and socialise over drinks.
Tratorria Santo Stefano is the in-house restaurant, and serves excellent Italian cuisine in elegant surroundings. In summer tables are placed out on the sidewalk, allowing guests to watch the world go by as they eat.
The surrounding streets of the Old Town hold much of interest, and are great just to meander around. St Stephen’s Church is barely 300 yards from Graben Hotel Hotel.
Graben's location right in the very heart of the city was clearly what most impressed guests. They mentioned that St. Stephen's Church was just steps away, and that they had a wide choice of cafes and other amenities to choose from in the area.
positive:
Very good breakfast
You have to look long and hard before finding a bad word written about the breakfast. On the contrary many guests praised it as being very tasty and well presented. It seemed to provide them with a good start to their day.
positive:
Lovely classical ambiance
Several guests thought that they were either in a true historic property, or one that had been built to a previous (high) standard and was able to fool everybody. In any event, their point was that the hotel had a terrific historical ambiance, while still having every modern convenience they could possibly need.
Negative Reviews
negative:
No in-room tea and coffee making facilities
While, surprisingly, not mentioned very often, it was pointed out that the rooms did not have any tea or coffee making facilities. While hot drinks were naturally available from room service, or from one of Vienna's famous cafes, some guests would have liked the ability to make themselves a quick cuppa in their room with a minimum of fuss.
negative:
Rooms a bit small for some
While guests conceded they were in a very central neighbourhood, and that the rooms weren't tiny, they felt that a hotel of Graben's standing should not have rooms as small as the one's they were allocated.
negative:
Some rooms with very poor views
Although it doesn't seem to be a general problem, a couple of unlucky guests report being allocated to a room that had a direct view onto a nearby wall. They were certainly not impressed.
