About Granville Hotel

The birthplace of Waterford’s famous son, Thomas Francis Meagher, Granville Hotel is a veritable piece of the city’s heritage. Dating back to the 1700s, this exquisite award-winning hotel by the waterfront oozes old-world style. The 100 rooms, some overlooking the river, are tastefully decorated in luxury period fabrics and dotted with antiques, evoking a bygone era. They are nevertheless air-conditioned and equipped with modern facilities, such as flat-screen televisions, free Wi-Fi, and safes. Granville Hotel operates a 24-hour front desk and can cater for events, such as weddings and conferences for up to 200 people. The well-renowned Bianconi Restaurant has a reputation for high quality contemporary Irish cuisine and lays on an extensive breakfast buffet each morning. There is also an atmospheric bar. The famous Waterford Crystal Factory and Museum of Treasures can be reached in under ten minutes on foot. The Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity is just 100 metres away.

Positive Reviews

positive:

Great location for a visit to the city.

If you’re on a whistle-stop tour of the city, then this hotel is the perfect base as it is within walking distance of practically everything. Ideally located on the riverfront, you’re in the best spot in the city. Add to that the tranquility of the city a

positive:

Friendly staff know their game.

The staff at the hotel certainly know how to make their guests feel at home, and nothing is too much trouble for them. They’ll even help to book tours and tickets and have some great tips on where the best Guinness is served in the city.

positive:

Fabulous food throughout the day.

From breakfast to dinner, the food is outstanding at this hotel. The restaurant is well known in the local area as the best place to eat, and the pub serves up a wonderful carvery at lunchtime. You probably won’t eat a bite outside the hotel.

Negative Reviews

negative:

Rooms a little tired.

The rooms are very comfortable and feel authentic, but that old feeling is hard to shake. It’s by no means terrible, but the décor could do with a little updating. It’s a shame because overall the hotel is a nice place.

negative:

Lively bar downstairs.

Be careful of your room allocation. Make sure you get a room as far away from the pub as possible as it can get a little noisy around closing time. The late night drinkers on their way home can get a bit loud.

negative:

Only one lift.

The lift in the hotel is serviceable but in a hotel of this size you’d expect at least two. If you have mobility issues, you may find yourself waiting quite some time to get up and down each day.
