2 Sisters

2 Sisters Bed & Breakfast, named for proprietors and sisters Mary and Madonna, was built in 1840, in the popular Federal Italiante style. Federal style architecture, first adopted by wealthy merchants in New England, is the most common style found in Madison. Well over 400 Federal style buildings grace the district. However, more elaborate homes for wealthier individuals took on popular post-Civil War styles of Italianate and Gothic Revival architecture, inspired by the Picturesque Movement from England. Many pre-existing Federal style homes had embellishments added later that were typical of Italiante architecture. One of the most unusual aspects of the décor of the home are the 11 H. H. Meyer frescos discovered in the kitchen during a recent remodel. We know H. H. Meyer was a Jewish German immigrant traveling through Indiana; however, we do not know the exact year. Over the years, the house has been many things, but it has never lost the original charm. Decorated in the theme of famous sisters from the 1900s, rooms are named after famous sister acts from the Jazz Age – The Dolly Sisters, The Dodge Twins and the Lorraine Sisters. Rooms include private bathrooms, luxurious linens and towels, custom soaps, Wi-Fi, televisions and DVD players, all the modern amenities you require for your home away from home. Located in the Historic District, 2 Sisters is one block off Main Street with its antique shops and unique boutiques, and two blocks from the waterfront.
