Review summary

This AI-generated summary was based on reviews from multiple
sites

This hotel offers a memorable stay, primarily distinguished by its stunning lakefront location directly on Keweenaw Bay, providing guests with beautiful views of Lake Superior. This makes it an ideal choice for sightseers and couples seeking a scenic and relaxing getaway, as well as families visiting students at Michigan Tech University or exploring the Upper Peninsula. Guests consistently highlight the convenience of the on-site restaurant and the exceptional friendliness of the staff. While the exterior has seen updates, the interior maintains a vintage charm that some find dated. To enhance your experience, consider requesting a room with a direct lake view and be prepared to enjoy the convenience of the hotel's dining options.

Facilities & Amenities
Guests frequently praise the hotel's recreational offerings, including a well-maintained indoor pool, a relaxing hot tub, and a functional sauna, all of which are often available until late hours. A dedicated fitness center is also on-site for those wishing to exercise. For convenience, rooms are equipped with a mini-fridge and microwave, and Wi-Fi is generally reliable. The hotel also provides a laundry room and a conference room suitable for events. Outdoors, guests can enjoy outdoor seating, a cozy fire pit, and swings by the shoreline, with some even noting access to a sandy beach. However, some guests have experienced issues with the elevator being out of order, and a few found the number of available outlets in rooms to be insufficient for modern devices.

Cleanliness & Room Comfort
The hotel consistently receives high marks for its cleanliness, with many guests describing rooms as spotless and well-maintained. While the comfortable beds are frequently praised for ensuring a restful night's sleep, the overall room decor and furniture are often described as dated, with some noting creaky floors, peeling wallpaper, and stained upholstery. Noise levels receive mixed feedback; while many appreciate the quiet atmosphere, some report disturbances from parties, street traffic, or the ice machine, particularly in rooms facing the road or adjacent to noisy guests. Some rooms offer in-room hot tubs, adding a touch of luxury. However, issues like dirty windows, ill-fitting screens, and a lack of proper ventilation in some bathrooms have been mentioned, alongside concerns about the functionality of outlets.

Dining & Food Quality
A significant highlight for many guests is the on-site restaurant and bar, which are widely lauded for their convenience and the high food quality. Reviewers frequently commend the delicious and generous portions, with specific praise for the Reuben sandwich (featuring homemade corned beef) and the Walleye fish dinner. The bar is noted as well-stocked, and the dining area offers a pleasant view of the bay, with options for outdoor seating. While breakfast is available, it is not complimentary and must be purchased, with some guests finding the sit-down service time-consuming. Despite the overall positive feedback on food, a few guests have noted a persistent fly problem in the restaurant area and occasional limitations in the bar's menu.

Location & Accessibility
The hotel's prime lakefront location directly on Keweenaw Bay is a major draw, offering picturesque views of Lake Superior. It serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area, including its proximity to Michigan Tech University and easy access to the wider Keweenaw Peninsula and Copper Country. The property is conveniently situated right on major highways, making it easy to find and access. While parking is available and generally spacious, some guests have noted instances of construction vehicles obstructing handicapped spaces. The immediate surrounding area has limited dining options outside of the hotel's own restaurant, which guests should consider when planning their meals.

Staff & Service
The hotel staff consistently receives overwhelmingly positive feedback for their exceptional friendliness and helpfulness. Guests frequently highlight their welcoming demeanor, attentiveness, and willingness to go above and beyond to accommodate requests, contributing significantly to a positive stay. While many appreciate the quick check-in process, some guests have reported issues such as rooms not being ready on time, incorrect room assignments, or difficulties with the key card system. Housekeeping is generally praised for its cleanliness, though some guests noted that room servicing needs to be specifically requested. Despite occasional operational challenges, the staff's commitment to providing excellent service is a recurring theme.

Additional Information
Guests should be aware that the hotel is undergoing ongoing renovations, particularly to its exterior siding, which may result in some construction noise during the day. There have been recurring reports of the elevator being out of order, which can be inconvenient for guests with heavy luggage or mobility concerns. The key card system has also presented occasional issues, leading to delays in room access. While the hotel generally maintains a quiet atmosphere, some guests have experienced disturbances from party noise in adjacent rooms. Additionally, some guests have noted discrepancies with advertised room capacity, such as issues with the availability of five-person rooms or rollaway beds.
