Those who stayed at Excelsior mentioned that its location was the highlight, since it is just a stone's throw from Praça Marquês de Pombal and Av. da Liberdade. Even better, guests mentioned that they could either walk to Lisbon's attractions, or jump onto a bus or metro line to quickly head downtown or to the airport.
The staff here was said to be another of the hotel's strengths, with people mentioning them as being amiable, welcoming and helpful with a good standard of English to boot.
According to reviews, the rooms here were said to be simple, but a good option for those simply wanting a budget place to stay. Moreover, they were said to be clean, and came with all important air conditioning.
A few Excelsior guests were not impressed to find out that the free parking was in fact on the street and whether or not they could get a spot or not came down to luck. In addition, a few guests mentioned that they found they rooms to be very small indeed.
The selection of fare on offer in the buffet breakfasts was not considered to be very good by some people, with the coffee not appearing to be much better, and in addition to this, the Wi-Fi was at times said to be rather weak and inconsistent.
Some of those who stayed thought the rooms here to be a bit time worn, marked and dated, however, a few reviews indicate that it appears to be undergoing redecoration. Despite this, guests did not really seem to mind considering the benefits of price, location and friendly staff.
