In Edessa, the traditional guesthouse Hagiati is located just beside the park of the famous Waterfalls of Edessa, at the beginning of the old Christian district «Varosi». The name of the hotel comes from the Arabic word hayat that means «the covered/open balcony or porch outside a traditional house». It was a family’s residence from 1880. Later the building got restored and renovated in order to be transformed into a traditional guesthouse, which was opened for the public in 2004. Despite the fact that the building is now renewed, it was designed according to the traditional Macedonian architecture and built only from natural materials like wood and stone. In this way the feeling of the old town and especially the district Varosi still remains and anyone can experience 1880's way of living.
