Its signature feature is its on-site restaurant, highly praised for its grilled meats and traditional cuisine, making it a popular stop for road trippers and travelers seeking a hearty meal. The hotel is well-suited for families looking for a unique getaway and couples desiring a quiet, themed retreat. While many guests commend the attentive staff and ample parking, some experiences highlight inconsistencies in service, particularly during busy periods or for large group bookings. To ensure a seamless stay, it is recommended to confirm specific room amenities and dining arrangements, especially if traveling with a group or during peak hours, and to inquire about potential noise sources for a more restful night.
Facilities & Amenities
The hotel offers a range of facilities designed to enhance guest convenience and comfort. Guests consistently appreciate the ample parking available, making arrivals and departures hassle-free. While the on-site restaurant is a major draw, providing convenient dining options, the hotel also features air conditioning in rooms, though some guests have reported issues with its functionality. Free Wi-Fi is generally available, but connectivity can be inconsistent in certain areas or rooms. For those traveling with bicycles, secure bicycle storage is a valued amenity. The hotel's overall ambiance is enhanced by its medieval theme, with solid wood furniture contributing to the unique decor. However, the included breakfast is often described as basic, typically consisting of coffee and a simple snack.
Cleanliness & Room Comfort
Guest feedback on cleanliness and room comfort is notably mixed. While some visitors praise the rooms as "impeccably clean" and "very well-maintained," others report significant issues, including finding hair, dirt, and even insects like cockroaches and spiders, with some severe complaints about bed bugs. Despite these concerns, many guests find the beds comfortable, often highlighting the quality of the memory foam mattress and pillows, ensuring a restful sleep. Rooms are generally equipped with air conditioning, though its functionality can be inconsistent, and some guests have noted issues with the TV not working or bathroom fixtures being loose. A unique design feature, a glass wall separating the bathroom from the bedroom, was found unusual by some. Noise levels vary; while some rooms are described as quiet, others experience disturbances from traffic, hotel machinery, or events.
Dining & Food Quality
The hotel's restaurant is a central feature, receiving highly varied feedback on its food quality and service. Many guests rave about the delicious grilled meats, particularly the suckling pig, and praise other dishes like pizzas, pan baos, and octopus, often describing the food as "excellent" and "very tasty." However, a significant number of reviews express disappointment, citing a decline in quality, cold or burned dishes, small portions, and specific items like hamburgers being unappetizing. The breakfast offered is generally considered basic, often just coffee and toast. Service in the restaurant is frequently lauded for its attentiveness and friendliness, with staff members often singled out for their professionalism. Conversely, large groups and peak times often experience extremely slow service, disorganization, and instances of rude staff, leading to frustration. The atmosphere of the restaurant is consistently praised for its charming medieval decor and cozy ambiance.
Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts a convenient roadside location, making it easily accessible for travelers and offering ample parking facilities that guests consistently appreciate. Situated in the middle of a picturesque valley, it provides beautiful views and a tranquil setting away from urban bustle. While it is not in a central location within a town, its proximity to the main road allows for easy access to nearby attractions and the beach. Some guests note that walking to the nearest town, Vélez de Benaudalla, can be a surprisingly long journey along a busy road without proper lighting after dark, which might be a consideration for those without a vehicle. Despite this, its position is generally seen as advantageous for those exploring the region by car, offering a strategic stopover point.
Staff & Service
The staff and service at the hotel receive a wide range of feedback, often depending on the specific area and situation. Many guests consistently praise the friendly staff for their attentive service, helpfulness, and professionalism, particularly highlighting individuals in the restaurant who go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience. They are often described as making guests feel "at home" and being very responsive to requests. However, a significant number of reviews, especially from large groups or during peak times, report issues with disorganized service, long wait times, and a perceived lack of experience among some staff members. There are also instances of rude interactions with management or staff, particularly concerning booking issues or complaints. While some mention a quick check-in, others describe a lack of information provided upon arrival.
Additional Information
Beyond the standard amenities, guests have noted several unique aspects and specific issues. The hotel's overarching medieval theme extends throughout the property, creating a distinctive ambiance that many find charming and well-executed. However, some reviews point to significant challenges with hotel management and the booking system, with instances of reservations not being honored or rooms being changed without prior notification or explanation of increased charges. For event organization, particularly large gatherings like communions, feedback indicates a lack of coordination and preparedness, leading to dissatisfaction. There are also mentions of specific room design choices, such as a glass wall between the bedroom and bathroom, which some guests found unusual. While not explicitly stated as a policy, the hotel's ability to accommodate large groups suggests a capacity for such visits, though the experience can be inconsistent.
