The Mount Evans Scenic Byway is the highest paved road in North America. It runs fourteen miles from Echo Lake to the summit of Mount Evans. This is Colorado Highway 5, taking the visitor from 10500 feet to 14,230 feet above sea level. There is an amenity fee of $10 per non commercial vehicle. For vehicles with 13-40 occupants the fee is $25. The personal fee (motorcycles, bicycles or foot) the fee is $3 The highway is surrounded by the Mount Evans Wilderness Area. It is the only wilderness area with a corridor of this type running through it. It is worth noting the climate on the highway can be very extreme. Check with CDOT (Colorado Department of Transportation) for road conditions. Usually the road is open by Memorial Day (May) and remains open until the first significant snowfall or the first weekend in October whichever is first. Typically the first nine miles will open first then the final five to the summit.
