The hotel has many pleasant and welcoming features (*including the tariff!) and is conveniently placed close to the main bus terminal. There is a 24-hour reception and room service is usefully provided. For some reason, the bedroom shower is sensationally effective.
Members of staff can't do enough to please guests. Even with the very real language problem, their wish to please shines through.
The hotel feels safe and secure. Regular guests will tell you that, years ago, this was not the case and the hotel had a reputation of which it has been glad to rid itself. Hopefully, the surrounding area will soon enjoy a similar makeover.
It's a good and sound economic choice to stay here. The ‘but' is a direct reference to the area which isn't attractive-and at night the atmosphere can become menacing. It certainly doesn't encourage you to take an evening stroll past the hotel's security guard with machine gun in hand! No way.
You can't get over the fact that the inability to speak English puts a blight on the hotel as a venue for English speaking guests. Add to this the complete lack of air conditioning in the bedroom (*in Mexico City … imagine!), the rotten smell that pervades the building and distinctly uncomfortable beds ... the use of un-diplomatic language becomes a possibility.
Keep calling, because if you call into the little restaurant, it's likely to be busy with 30 or so people, many of them locals. That's fine, but there's only one waiter scurrying around, fighting against the odds, in an effort to serve everyone. When it eventually arrives, the food is fine.
