About Nooit Gedacht Holiday Resort Unawatuna

In Dutch Nooit Gedacht means Never Thought of ( Never thought of building a house) Originally the house of a Dutch Governor when Dutch ruled Galle in 1735. The spot for the Governor's mansion was chosen by the Dutch because of the fresh water spring in the back yard of the house. In the back yard is also the remnant of a Dutch canal once used to transport fresh water and spices to warehouses in Galle fort. In 1942 the house was commandeered by the British and used as the logistics centre for the Koggala Air Base during World war II. Nestled at the foot of famous Sanjeewani Mountain Nooit Gedacht is a place of beauty and simplicity for artists, writers, intellectuals, honey moon couples or simply for those who are seeking a peaceful holiday in the sun. Nooit Gedacht is a Colonial style hotel with luscious green landscape, Authentic Sri Lankan culinary with Eastern & Western delicacies and affordable accommodation. It's just few minutes walk away from the world famous Unawatuna beach & 5 Km away from the Galle fortress which is a world heritage site and the largest remaining fortress in Asia.
