The neighbourhood, Pelourinho, World Heritage Site, is full of history since the Portuguese founders, back in the 1500's, passing by slavery period that ended in 1888. Today, Pelourinho is the expression of the African-Brazilian culture, celebrating their freedom playing drums on the streets, as well as capoeira, where you are also going to find many restaurants and stands selling local food like acarajé, tapioca, cocada etc.
