About St George Inn

Southern Hospitality on St. George is home-style scale; welcoming staff; and a bit quirky! All of our rooms are different, but they share a common denominator: noble materials were used to build the inn. The St. George Inn stands out at first sight: a true Southern building, with wide wrap-around porches and rocking chairs. French doors and large massive teal wood shutters give substance to this otherwise white structure. Private parking for guests. Handicapped accessible. The lobby sets the tone of this vacation haven: turquoise and peach walls around a reception desk made of hard-pine (clear), mahogany (darker) and pink marble. Hand-painted stairs lead guests to the 2nd floor. The artist began as a housekeeper and enjoys further contributing to the inn's character. The stairs offer a beautiful summary of the area, from sea turtles to the light blue waters. The rooms are all different, from a replica of an under water aquarium with two superposed twin beds all the way to a family or honey moon suite. Other flavors are available: Jacuzzi tub, full kitchens, private salons, family suites. WiFi, flat screen TV, coffee set, microwave, refrigerator in each room. VISA, MC, Discover are accepted.

Review summary

This AI-generated summary was based on reviews from multiple
sites

The hotel offers a distinctive "Old Florida" charm, characterized by its historic building and inviting wrap-around porches adorned with rocking chairs, providing a memorable and unique stay. Its prime central location is a significant draw, placing guests within easy walking distance of virtually all island attractions. This makes it an ideal choice for sightseers and beach lovers eager to explore the area on foot, as well as couples seeking a quaint and romantic escape. The hotel is also notably pet-friendly, accommodating families traveling with their furry companions. While many appreciate the hotel's character, some guests advise requesting rooms on lower floors or away from bright external lights for optimal comfort, and bringing earplugs due to potential noise from the building's older structure and other guests.

Facilities & Amenities
Guests frequently highlight the hotel's charming wrap-around porches with rocking chairs, which offer a relaxing space to unwind and enjoy the island atmosphere. Many rooms are equipped with convenient kitchenettes, including refrigerators and microwaves, providing flexibility for guests to prepare snacks or simple meals. The availability of Keurig machines with coffee and tea options, either in rooms or common areas, is also a much-appreciated amenity. While the hotel offers free Wi-Fi, some guests reported inconsistent connectivity. A common point of feedback is the absence of an elevator, which can be challenging for guests with heavy luggage or mobility concerns, especially given the multiple levels of rooms. Additionally, the ice machines are noted to be quite small, sometimes requiring guests to seek ice elsewhere.

Cleanliness & Room Comfort
Feedback on cleanliness and room comfort is mixed; many guests describe their rooms as spotless and comfortable, while others reported issues such as blood stains on sheets, dirty floors, or mold in bathrooms. The beds receive varied reviews, with some finding them very comfortable and others describing them as creaky, too soft, or excessively firm. Noise levels are a significant concern for many, attributed to thin walls, creaky wooden floors, slamming doors, and even barking dogs, impacting sleep quality. A recurring complaint is the lack of in-room temperature control, as thermostats are often centrally located, leading to rooms being either too cold or too warm. Bathrooms are frequently noted as small, lacking counter space or adequate shelving, and some have issues with water pressure, mold, or rocking toilets. Additionally, some rooms have difficult-to-access electrical outlets and missing smoke detectors.

Location & Accessibility
The hotel's central location is consistently praised as a major highlight, allowing guests to easily access most of the island's attractions on foot. It is ideally situated within walking distance of the beach, numerous restaurants, various shops, and the lighthouse, making it incredibly convenient for exploring. This prime positioning means guests can park their vehicles and immerse themselves in the local atmosphere without needing to drive, enhancing the overall relaxation of their stay. While the location is excellent for accessibility, some guests noted that views from certain rooms or parts of the wrap-around porch can be obstructed by adjacent buildings, such as a nearby candy store or real estate office, which can be a minor disappointment for those expecting expansive vistas. Parking is readily available on-site, adding to the convenience for those arriving by car and providing a secure base for their island adventures.

Staff & Service
The staff at the hotel consistently receives high praise for their friendliness, helpfulness, and accommodating nature. Guests frequently commend their positive attitudes and willingness to assist with requests, whether it's providing local recommendations or addressing room concerns, contributing significantly to a pleasant stay. The check-in process is generally described as easy and efficient, setting a welcoming tone upon arrival. Many appreciate the attentive service provided, including daily trash pickup and fresh towel delivery upon request, ensuring a comfortable environment. The hotel is also noted for its pet-friendly service, with staff being understanding and supportive of guests traveling with animals, which is a major plus for many visitors. However, some guests reported issues with staff availability after 8 PM, which can be inconvenient for late arrivals or urgent needs, requiring guests to be aware of the limited front desk hours. Overall, the dedication of the staff to guest satisfaction is a recurring positive theme.

Additional Information
The hotel is widely recognized as a historic building with a distinct "Old Florida" charm, appealing to those who appreciate quirky, older properties and a unique atmosphere. A significant point for guests to note is the absence of an elevator, meaning access to upper floors requires navigating multiple stairs, which can be challenging for guests with heavy luggage or mobility issues. While the hotel is notably pet-friendly, there is a daily fee associated with bringing pets, and specific policies regarding leaving animals unattended in rooms should be reviewed by guests in advance. Guests should also be aware that the hotel uses physical keys for rooms, which must be remembered and returned if departing before the front desk opens, as there is no one available after 8 PM. Some rooms feature hardwood floors, which, while adding to the historic aesthetic, can contribute to noise transfer between levels, so light sleepers might consider bringing earplugs.
