Good food and excellent service are on the cards here. Breakfast is wonderful and memorable. Whist you are here, don't miss out on the fantastic Settle Carlisle Railway!

This mix of locals and visiting guests is a cocktail for a happy stay. You can't re-create this sort of atmosphere; multi-billion hotel chains have tried and failed.  No difficulty here, though. They've just added modern facilities to the 17th century building-and away you go!

The late Lancashire comedian, Les Dawson used to say: “Yorkshire born, Yorkshire bred; strong in the arm ……” Not so, here. Expert management and super staff and customer service, all combine to ensure that this Lion continues to be a 'mane' attraction and a roaring success in Settle.

It's a single room but passed off as a double. Yes, it's comfortable  but there's no wardrobe. If there was, you'd need to take the bed out! Also; is it Yorkshire meanness that skimps on teas and coffees in the room and limits en-suite freebies to the very minimum, whilst over loading the tariff to the max? Just asking!!

In their over enthusiastic re-decoration programme, they've painted over the window joints so there's no way you can open the damn thing and let in that fresh Yorkshire air. Frustrating because at least that's free!

The beers may be on draught but the sealing of windows in the bedroom means that you need the heating on full blast just to survive the other icy draft from the windows.
