Hotel The Island House (Mackinac Island, USA)

This vintage hotel provides excellent views from its vast, rambling porch complete with rocking chairs. This beautiful property is well-maintained, full of character, and utterly charming. There are plenty of chairs outside for relaxing after a busy day of sightseeing.

While this hotel is right on Main Street, it's a little farther down from the hustle and bustle of downtown. You'll be within walking distance to the ferry docks as well as bicycle rentals where you can rent a bike and peddle around the island. Doud's grocery mart is just a block away in case you need some snacks for your stay.

If you love spending evenings by the fire, this hotel has just the thing for you. For a small fee, you can pick up a s'mores packet from the front desk and roast marshmallows as you watch the sunset.

As can be expected on the island, rooms are quite small and do not offer much in the way of storage for your belongings. There aren't enough drawers or hooks for your clothes, so be prepared to live out of your suitcase while you're here.

Wi-Fi service is slow and drops frequently, however, this is a good excuse to unplug from technology, take a step back, and enjoy the peacefulness of Mackinac Island.

You may find it a bit noisy at times, as this old hotel has very thin walls. You're likely to hear your neighbors in the next room or people coming and going down the halls. Bringing earplugs may be a good idea.
