Review summary

This AI-generated summary was based on reviews from multiple
sites

Nestled amidst breathtaking natural scenery, this hotel offers a cozy lodge-like atmosphere that makes it a memorable retreat. Its signature feature is its stunning location, providing a quiet and peaceful escape ideal for nature lovers and sightseers exploring the southern coast. The property is particularly well-suited for hikers seeking relaxation after a day on the trails, and its tranquil setting makes it an excellent spot for couples and families to unwind. Guests frequently highlight the inviting common areas and the availability of a hot tub as key amenities. To ensure a smooth arrival, guests should be prepared for a self-check-in process, as on-site staff presence is limited, and it is advisable to confirm access codes in advance.

Facilities & Amenities
The hotel features a hot tub that many guests appreciate for its relaxing qualities and the opportunity to enjoy mountain views, though some note that its temperature can be inconsistent, occasionally being lukewarm or not hot enough. The common room is frequently praised as a spacious and welcoming area with comfortable seating and games, providing a great space for guests to connect or relax. Complimentary snacks and hot drinks are often available in this area, adding to the cozy atmosphere. While Wi-Fi is generally available, some guests experienced connectivity issues. Room amenities can vary, with some rooms featuring a TV (sometimes with Netflix) and a mini-fridge, but a few guests reported non-functional televisions.

Cleanliness & Room Comfort
Overall, the rooms are generally described as clean and well-maintained, contributing to a comfortable stay. However, some guests noted occasional issues such as unemptied garbage or dust upon arrival, and some found that daily room cleaning was not consistently provided. Room sizes and layouts vary significantly; while some rooms are spacious, others are described as small, cramped, or having low ceilings that can be inconvenient. Bed comfort receives mixed reviews, with some finding the beds comfortable while others describe them as uncomfortable or too narrow. A recurring concern is the bathroom, with many guests reporting a persistent sewerage or sulfur smell, and issues with shower water temperature fluctuating between very hot and cold, or having low pressure. Noise levels are also a point of mixed feedback, as thin walls can lead to guests hearing sounds from other rooms or common areas.

Dining & Food Quality
The breakfast offered at the hotel receives varied feedback, with many guests praising its quality, variety, and the attentiveness of the staff preparing it. Options typically include a mix of sweet items, cold cuts, and some hot food like scrambled eggs, though some guests desired more healthy choices or found the selection basic. There are mentions of coffee and tea being accessible at all times, which is a welcome convenience. However, some guests reported issues with breakfast items not being replenished adequately or the dining area being too small and crowded, especially during peak times. It is important to note that the hotel does not have an on-site restaurant for dinner, and dining options in the immediate vicinity are limited, requiring guests to travel further for evening meals.

Location & Accessibility
The hotel's central location is a significant draw, situated amidst stunning natural scenery and offering a quiet, peaceful retreat. It is conveniently located near the Ring Road, making it an excellent base for exploring the southern coast of Iceland. Guests appreciate its proximity to popular attractions such as Skogafoss and other waterfalls, as well as being a good stop on the way to Vik. The remote setting provides an ideal environment for viewing the Northern Lights. Parking is readily available directly in front of the property, offering easy access for guests with vehicles. While some guests found the property hard to locate in the dark due to limited signage, many describe it as easily accessible once found.

Staff & Service
The check-in process is predominantly self-service, which can be a source of frustration for many guests. Common issues include not receiving access codes in advance, non-functional lobby phones, and difficulty reaching staff by phone for assistance, leading to delays and confusion upon arrival. While some guests experienced a smooth and quick check-in, others reported significant challenges, including being unable to access their rooms for extended periods. Feedback on on-site staff is mixed; some guests found them friendly and attentive, particularly during breakfast service, while others described them as unhelpful, unresponsive, or having a language barrier. There are also mentions of housekeeping staff entering rooms unexpectedly or not providing daily service.

Additional Information
Guests should be aware that the water at the property, common in Iceland, may have a noticeable sulfur smell, which some found strong. The hotel operates primarily on a self-check-in policy, with strict check-in time limits, typically not allowing arrivals after 9 PM, which has caused significant inconvenience for guests arriving late or facing road closures. There were isolated instances of guests reporting confusion regarding ownership changes or being assigned cabins instead of lodge rooms without prior explanation. The property does not offer a full kitchen for guest use, though some cabins may have small kitchenettes.
