Newton Hotel (Glasgow, United Kingdom)

The Newton’s location is one of the key selling points. Guests found it convenient for trains, buses and airport links and with pubs clubs and restaurants just a stone’s throw away, they thought it great for a night or two in Glasgow.

The Newton is a little gem say some guests who appreciated the clean, modern and comfortable rooms. The choice of a Continental or complimentary hot breakfast made it great value for the money.

Guests found the staff friendly, helpful and happy to offer suggestions on what to see and where to eat in Glasgow.

A pub next door with an all-night-disco on weekends played havoc with guests who were trying to sleep. The bass vibrations and sing-a-longs well into the wee hours left some guests saying they would never return to the Newton. Rooms at the front of the hotel were particularly affected. Noise from the alley behind the hotel and from the street also kept guests awake.

The Newton was once three private houses and the conversion to a hotel created a floor plan that guests found confusing. Quirky and bizarre according to some guests who said you go down one flight of stairs, along a corridor, through the dining room and up another flight of stairs to finally reach the room. Guests who had luggage to carry found it all a bit too much. After all the work of getting there, some guests found the rooms disappointing with insufficient bathroom space for toiletries and, when the windows were opened, smells from cigarette smoke and rubbish bins in the alley outside.

Guests were not thrilled with the turkey bacon and sausage they were served for breakfast. They found it dry and tasteless and would have preferred pork bacon. They also felt that there was not enough variety, that the food was overcooked and the service a bit rushed. Breakfast service ends at 9 a.m. which some guests found too early.
