Situated in an enviable position on a wild stretch of the coast, Playacanela Hotel Hotel offers guests full resort facilities with something to offer the whole family. Both rooms and small apartments are available, and feature private balconies, air conditioning, flat screen TV’s, work desks and telephones. Apartments also have separate bedrooms, lounge/dining areas and small kitchenettes. The focus at Playacanela Hotel is undoubtedly on the pool terrace, which has facilities and activities for the whole family. Reception is open 24 hours and can assist with local information and luggage storage. The Odiel Restaurant serves all three meals, buffet style, and also has popular show cooking and theme nights on occasion. Guests can also relax poolside with a drink or light meal from the poolbar. The main attractions are the hotel itself and the magnificent natural beach just in front of the property. Faro Airport, in neighbouring Portugal, is 48 miles to the west.

The location of the hotel, right on a pretty wild stretch of coastline with lovely sandy beach, was by far what most impressed guests about Playacanela. They loved that to get to the beach all they had to do was stroll down the walkway over the dunes. Also mentioned was the proximity to the marina.
Guests travelling in the cooler months were very happy to report that there was a heated indoor pool available. They never felt like they were missing out on the pool experience, just because the outdoor pools were too cold to swim in.
The immediate area is not heavily commercialised, and there is not much of an off-site nightlife scene. This suited families perfectly, since it seemed to create a more family-friendly atmosphere. Guests also mentioned that there was a good children's entertainment program in season.
While of course these were available in other sections of the hotel, quite a few guests in the regular rooms did miss not having tea or coffee making facilities in their rooms, since they weren't able to whip themselves up a quick cuppa with no fuss.
All guests who mentioned that Wi-Fi was an extra charge were thoroughly unimpressed with the policy. Considering the central position connectivity plays in people's lives nowadays they believed that it should have been included in the room rate.
There were a surprising number of comments concerning the inefficiency of the lifts. The main problem seemed to be that there were not enough of them for the size of the hotel. As a result many guest were left aimlessly pressing the up or down arrows to summon lifts that took forever to arrive.
