What would Innsbruck be without Emperor Max? The city has him thank for their landmark, Goldenes Dachl, among other things. And Emperor Max is now back again! Located right in the Old Town area and just in front of the Golden Roof are the Emperor Max Appartements in Innsbruck and the Kaiser Max Café. A total of 9 fully-fitted apartments are available to those enjoying short breaks and city breaks, right in the heart of Innsbruck. Most of the sights in the town are within walking distance, even the Hungerburgbahn is just a few minutes’ walk away. So you leave your car parked in the garage during your holiday. The Kaiser Max Café in Innsbruck in Tyrol is open throughout the day and provides an extensive breakfast in the morning until 12 o'clock. In the evening it then becomes a cosy wine bar, inviting you to bring the day to a close with a nice drink. Incidentally, when the weather is good you can also head to the guest garden, where you will get to enjoy a direct view to the Goldenes Dachl. Emperor Max also has the very thing for when you get a bit peckish between meals, providing typical Tyrolean dishes such as ‘Schlutzkrapfen’ (ravioli), snack platters and a wide selection of delicious dumplings. Our dumplings also come in ‘mini form’, so you can take them away with you, if you prefer things to be a little quicker. Since the Kaiser Max Apartments are located in the centre of Innsbruck old town, they are only accessible by car at loading times between 06:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Parking is generally not available. This hotel is highly praised for its unbeatable central location, situated directly in the heart of Innsbruck's Old Town, right next to the iconic Golden Roof and the Stadtturm. This prime position makes it an ideal choice for sightseers eager to explore the city's main attractions on foot, as well as families and couples seeking a vibrant urban experience with spacious, well-equipped apartment-style accommodations. While guests appreciate the cleanliness and comfort, a recurring theme is the significant noise from the bustling streets, especially during summer. To ensure a more restful stay, it is advisable to request a room located away from the main street, and guests should be prepared for off-site parking options, which can be both distant and costly.
Facilities & Amenities
The apartments generally feature a well-equipped kitchen, which is a significant convenience for guests, though many note the absence of basic supplies such as coffee pods, sugar, salt, or pepper. While an elevator provides easy access to all floors, the Wi-Fi connectivity can be inconsistent, with some guests experiencing poor signal or slow speeds. A notable point of contention for longer stays is the washing machine, which some reviews indicate was either advertised but not present, or found to be broken. During warmer months, the lack of air conditioning is a major concern, with provided fans often proving insufficient to cool the rooms, leading to uncomfortable temperatures. Additionally, luggage storage facilities are limited or unavailable, causing inconvenience for guests arriving early or departing late.
Cleanliness & Room Comfort
Guests generally find the apartments to be clean and spacious, offering ample room for relaxation. The main beds are frequently described as comfortable, contributing to a good night's sleep. However, noise levels are a significant drawback for many, with street sounds from deliveries, cleaning machines, Christmas markets, and even construction permeating through the old windows, which offer poor sound insulation. The bathroom design, featuring sliding glass doors that are sometimes transparent or do not seal properly, raises privacy concerns and allows noise and odors to escape. Some bathrooms have also shown signs of mold or had broken shower heads. Furthermore, some second bedrooms are noted to be small, lacking windows, and prone to becoming uncomfortably warm due to poor ventilation, especially in the summer.
Dining & Food Quality
The downstairs restaurant consistently receives high praise from guests for its delicious food and attentive service. Many reviewers highlight the quality of the meals, making it a convenient and enjoyable dining option directly within the building. While the apartments offer kitchen facilities for self-catering, guests frequently mention the lack of complimentary coffee or tea supplies within the rooms, suggesting that these basic amenities would enhance the overall guest experience.
Location & Accessibility
The hotel's central location is its most celebrated attribute, placing guests directly in the vibrant heart of Innsbruck's Old Town. It offers unparalleled proximity to attractions such as the Golden Roof, the Stadtturm, and the bustling Christmas market, along with numerous shops, cafes, and restaurants, all within easy walking distance. The hotel is also conveniently located near public transport options, including bus stops for ski access. However, parking is a significant challenge; there is no on-site parking, and guests must use expensive off-site garages located a considerable walk away, which can be particularly inconvenient when handling luggage or traveling with small children, as driving is not permitted in the Old Town.
Staff & Service
The check-in process is generally described as easy, often involving self-check-in or assistance from the restaurant staff. However, staff helpfulness receives mixed reviews; while some guests commend the team as friendly, professional, and accommodating, others report instances of rude, unaccommodating, or even hostile behavior, particularly from management when issues arise. Communication can also be inconsistent. It is important to note that housekeeping services and fresh towels are not included for shorter stays and incur additional charges, which some guests find unexpected or excessive.
Additional Information
Guests should be aware of certain additional tourist charges that may apply to their stay. For families, there is a travel cot fee per night. A recurring issue mentioned by guests is the presence of construction noise from nearby sites, which can be disruptive during the day and sometimes into the evening. The hotel's old building characteristics, while charming, contribute to issues such as a lack of air conditioning and poor sound insulation from outside noise. Furthermore, many guests express disappointment over the absence of basic kitchen supplies like coffee, sugar, salt, and pepper, which they expect in a self-catering apartment.
