Avene lake (Avène, France)

Avène lake is an artificial lake. The 61 metre high dam was built in 1960, for several reasons. The lake supplies drinking water to the west Herault area and the south of the Aude department. The hydraulic dam also helps regulate seasonal floods, and the river Orb, which flows through the lake, irrigates fertile land in the Béziers plain. The lake is surrounded by a thick forest valley. There is a pedestrian path to walk around the lake. You’ll find the lake between Avène and Ceilles. Its surroundings are wild, so there are no beaches or other specific bathing zones.
