Carnoustie Golf Links is a championship course, and is on the rota of British Open courses. Seven Opens have been staged here, most recently in 2007, won by Padraig Harrington. The difficulty of the course, combined with the fickle weather, can produce some major upsets, known as the “Carnoustie effect”. There are three courses: the Championship Course, the Burnside Course and the Buddon Links. The original Championship Course was first laid out in 1850 and later modified by two “greats” of the game, Old Tom Morris and James Braid. Its final redesign was before the 1937 Open, and it remains much as it was then. The Burnside Course is slightly newer and is used as an Open qualifying venue, while the Buddon Links dates from 1979. All are public courses and not restricted to members, although local clubs have playing rights.
Carnoustie Golf Links is a top attraction in Carnoustie, known for its unique features that attract numerous visitors each year.
