City Hall (Durban, South Africa)

Durban City Hall is a landmark building with neo-Baroque and Modern Renaissance architectural highlights. It is located on Francis Farewell Square and was modelled on the Belfast City Hall. Stanley Hudson designed the City Hall and building work was completed in 1910. The City Hall houses municipal offices as well as the Natural Science Museum and the Durban Art Gallery. Occasional educational events are presented and guided tours can be arranged. It is also home to the eThekwini Municipal Library which offers more than a million works. The Post Office (circa 1885) is also located on the square and both buildings as well as Francis Farewell Square have been declared as National Monuments and are considered to be at the core of Durban.
