Daytona Beach Pier (Daytona Beach, USA)
The Daytona Beach Pier (also known as the Main Street Pier) extends into the Atlantic Ocean at the east end of Main Street in the city of Daytona Beach. A pier has existed on this site since the 1890s, and the current structure was built in 1925. At 1000 feet in length, it is one of longest piers on Florida’s east coast. The pier features a Victorian-style building that has served as casino, the site of balls and beauty contests, and a variety of other civic and social functions. After being acquired by the city in 2004, the pier was refurbished and the old casino was converted into a seafood restaurant operated by Joe’s Crab Shack. In addition to the dining rooms inside the old casino, there are tables overlooking the pier railings for use by those looking for light fare and/or beverages. The eastern end of the pier is used for fishing as well as for observing marine and bird life. No access fees are charged, and a fishing license is not required. The pier is open the year around.
