Dealey Plaza Historic District (Dallas, USA)

Completed in 1940, Dealey Plaza was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1993. The park takes its name from George Bannerman Dealey, an early editor of the Dallas Morning News. The site features several monuments and statues, as well as a stone marking the location of Dallas’ first Masonic temple. Dealey Plaza is most famous for being the site of the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy and a museum to his memory is located on the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Depository which stands on the Plaza. The Dealey Plaza Historic District contains the park in its entirety, a portion of rail yard, and six buildings, including the Texas School Book Depository. Parking is metered in the downtown region and complimentary during evenings and weekends.
