Enetiko Limani (Rethymnon, Greece)

The old port of Rethymnon was build in the 1300s by the Venetians because they needed an intermediary port for their ship operations between Heraklion (80 km) and Chania (60 km) where they had larger naval bases. Today the old port is located within the new Rethymnon harbour linked to he port of Piraeus by regular year-round boat services. It is still in use by fishermen who are fixing their fishing boats along the pier. Various boat cruises are offered too, including trips to different beaches and a dolphin tour. There are plenty of restaurants with terraces in the old houses around the picturesque harbour basin with the Turkish lighthouse from the 1700s.
