Farnborough International Air Show (Farnborough, United Kingdom)

The Farnborough International Air Show is both an industry trade exhibition and a spectator event, and is held every two years in the middle of July. The airfield site has been associated with aviation since HM Balloon Factory was moved there in 1905. From its beginnings as a showcase of the British air industry, the Show has developed a global remit with over 1,000 exhibitors and over 200,000 visitors. During its 60 year history it has seen the first appearances of many new aircraft, including the De Havilland Comet, Concorde and the Airbus 380. The main attraction for the general public is the flying display. This lasts for about 4.5 hours on the afternoons of the public days and combines old and modern aircraft flying singly and in formation, as well as aerobatics. Spectators can also get close to the machines in the extensive static display. Non-airplane attractions include rides, carousels and children’s entertainment. Car parking and access to attractions within the Show is free. A free shuttle bus runs from nearby rail stations. Most of the Show is on ground level but there is provision where necessary for the disabled. Tickets (2008) are £28 (€42), under 16s go free, but some savings can be made by advance booking.
