Fundy National Park (Alma, Canada)

Fundy National Park is a 206-sq km wilderness area in southern New Brunswick. The park consists of a two major elements: (1) a remnant of the Acadian Forest, which once flourished throughout Canada’s Caledonia Highlands, and (2) a section of rugged coastline on the Bay of Fundy, which experiences the largest tidal swings found anywhere on Earth. The visitor centre is located near the coastal village of Alma. Opened to the public in 1952, Fundy offers visitors everything from wilderness camping to modern lodging and recreational facilities, complete with programs focused on various aspects of the park’s ecological diversity and its cultural and economic significance—past and present. In addition to lodge rooms and self-catering chalets, Fundy boasts a rustic amphitheater, swimming pool, tennis courts, bowling green, 9-hole golf course, and over 120 km in hiking trails. The park is home to a wide range of plant and animal life, including over 650 species of vascular plants, 38 species of mammals, and 260 species of birds. Habitats include mixed conifer and hardwood forest, meadows, salt marshes, the Alma Estuary, ponds and freshwater marshes, and the long Fundy shoreline.
