The Great Mosque of Divriği dates back to 1228 and was commissioned by Mengücek Emir Ahmet Şah.At the same time his wife Melike Turan gave orders for the hospital, which adjoins the mosque, to be built. The mosque features one prayer room and two cupolas and is famous for ornate decoration. The mosque and the hospital have altogether four doors (Şifahane Taç, Şah Mahfili Taç, north Taç and west Taç), each off the door features different reliefs. Today the mosque and hospital are regarded as one of the most elaborately decorated medieval monuments in this part of Turkey and in recognition of its importance they have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
