Hamleys is a toy shop in London. William Hamley opened his first toy shop “Hamleys” in 1760 in Bodmin, Cornwall. His childhood dream became reality, and the shop thrived through the generations and in 1881 Hamley’s descendants opened a second shop in Regent Street, London. After a difficult period for Hamleys in the 1920’s, it was bought by Walter Lines who managed to get the customers back into the toy shop. His efforts were rewarded by Queen Mary in 1938. Queen Elizabeth II also rewarded the “Toys and Sports Merchant” later in 1955. Today, Hamleys is still at 188-196 Regent Street and on the Internet, from where goods can be passed and shipped all over the world. The nearest tube stations are Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus. The shop is open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 8pm, on Saturday from 9am to 8 pm and on Sunday from noon until 6pm.
