Henri Pittier National Park (Maracay, Venezuela)

One of the most important and also the oldest preserve in Venezuela, the Parque Nacional Henri Pittier was formerly known as the Rancho Grande. Established in 1937, it traverses the northern part of Aragua and can be reached from the road joining Maracay and El Limón as well as the road from Maracay to Choroní. The park is renowned for its birdlife and includes the Estación Biológica Fernández Yépez. The Chuao Plantation, which has been producing cocoa since the 16th century, also forms part of the park and has been tentatively listed as an Unesco Heritage Site.
