Houses of Parliament (Cape Town, South Africa)
The Houses of Parliament of the South African government are located in Cape Town’s Company Gardens, with the entrance facing towards Parliament Street. Despite not being the capital of South Africa Cape Town is the legislative seat of the country while Pretoria is the administrative capital and seat of the government. The building, which features a dome and Corinthian porticos, was originally designed by Charles Freeman who was replaced by Henry Graves after he got the measures of the foundations wrong. The building was completed in 1885 and also houses the Library of Parliament. It is possible to take a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament which includes information on history, meeting a member of the Parliament, attending a debate and more. The tours last around one hour and are available from Monday to Friday between 9am and noon. Please note that a tour must be booked at least one week in advance, this can be done via the website. The Houses of Parliament do not offer parking spaces to visitors but public parking is available in the area surrounding the complex.
