Billed as the “premier aviation museum in Europe”, the museum is located on an airfield used in both world wars. Large hangars house a collection of aircraft from the earliest to modern times, including Spitfires, Hurricanes and a Lancaster bomber. Of particular note is the American Air Museum with its collection of American combat aircraft including a B17, B29 and B52. The building in which they are displayed has won several architectural awards. But the museum does not concentrate solely on aircraft. The land warfare museum has a collection of tanks and armoured vehicles, and the Normandy Experience looks at the 1944 invasion. There is an annual Air Show in which many vintage and modern aircraft take part as well as other exhibitions and events throughout the year. The website has comprehensive information of what is on display, ticket details and a page on accessibility for wheelchair users. Open daily except 24, 25 and 26 December.
