Ipswich Waterfront (Ipswich, United Kingdom)

Ipswich Waterfront is the area located around the historic docks of the city, once the largest enclosed dock in the country, at a bend of the River Orwell. The city centre is only a few minute’s walk away and the waterfront is well served by public transport and offers parking facilities (fees may apply). There has been a dock in this location since at least the 8th century which was one of the most important ports in England at that time, which was developped over the centuries. A new wet dock was constructed in 1842 and the Old Customs House, which is still existing today and one of the focal points of the area, was added in 1845. In recent years the area has undergone a huge transformation and many of the historic buildings have been transformed or replaced by modern structures to make way for the culture and leisure centre it is today. Apart from many bars, restaurants and cafes there is a cinema, art galleries, marina and there are many possibilties to take part in day cruises on boats of all sizes and ages. Further there is a market and events and festivals are also held regularly.
