Kirkstall Abbey was founded in 1152 and thrived until 1539 when King Henry V111 dissolved all of the monasteries in England through an act of Parliament. Today, this is one of the best preserved abbeys in Britain and it still has its original church and tower. It is open daily (except Monday) from 11am until 4pm during the summer and from 11am until 3pm during the winter. Admission is free.
