Mission San Jose (San Antonio, USA)
Mission San Jose (Mission San José y San Miguel de Aguayo) was first established in 1720 by Father Antonio Margil de Jesús. It is the largest of the five Spanish missions in San Antonio Missions National Historic Park, and in 1941 it was declared a National Historic Site. The mission’s limestone church, built in the late 18th century, is widely accepted as the best example of Spanish Baroque architecture in North America. On Sundays, the Mission San Jose offers visitors an authentic mariachi mass. There is no charge for admission, however, donations are welcomed. The grounds are open to the public from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. daily. Parking is readily available and free of charge. On Thanksgiving Day, December 25th, and January 1st, the mission is closed to the public.
