Montezuma Castle National Monument (Camp Verde, USA)

Montezuma Castle is located approximately 45 minutes drive from Flagstaff and 17km from the Montezuma Well which is part of the National Monument. Although closed to the public since 1951, visitors can view the exterior of these cliff dwellings which date from around 1425 AD and offer an insight into the culture of the Sinagua. A paved trail leads along the base of the cliffs from the visitor centre which is open daily from 08h00 to 18h00 during June to August, with closure an hour earlier the rest of the year. Facilities include a bookshop and museum with exhibits relating to the Sinaguan Indians. There are also picnic areas and the adult entrance tariff is $5.00.
