The Isle of Mull stages traditional Highland Games every summer on a site overlooking the Sound of Mull. The games are a mixture of bagpiping and dancing competitions, light events like high leap and races (including a hill-running race), and heavy events such as ‘tossing the caber’ (throwing a tree trunk in such a way as to up-end it), throwing the hammer, throwing the weight over the bar and tug-of-war. The competitions are open to anyone, but the competitors in the heavy events tend to be traditionally kilted strongmen doing the games circuit. The games usually start at 10.30 and the 2007 event will be on Thursday the 19th July.
