Quaint but quirky, Preston is one of the up-and-coming areas of Melbourne. Once nicknamed “DePreston” due to its relatively gentrified nature, the city is proving to be anything but.

Preston is currently considered a rather multicultural and eclectic community and continues to attract people from all over the city. The suburb is situated just ten kilometres north of the Melbourne CBD, and offers excellent transportation links. From charming boutiques to the Northland Shopping Centre, Preston is a great place for shopping. New shops are popping up in the area all the time.

However, one of the highlights of the area is the Preston Market. Open most days of the week from Wednesday through Sunday, this is the place to go for great bargains and unique buys. Locals love it for fresh, locally sourced produce, clothing and homeware. You can find just about anything here. Keep in mind that the busiest day is Saturday, so it’s best to get there early. However, any day of the week is worth visiting.
