Richmond Park (Richmond-upon-Thames, United Kingdom)

Richmond Park is the largest Royal Park, covering 2,500 acres. It is a National Nature Reserve and a site of Special Scientific Interest, with royal connections going back to 1272. In 1625 Charles I brought his court to the area and changed the name from Sheen to Richmond. The former royal hunting ground is inhabited by herds of red and fallow deer, wild green ring neck parakeets and many other rare species of bird. There is no entry fee, several free car parks and other attractions such as Isabella Plantation, an ornamental woodland; ponds and lakes and a “protected view” from Henry’s Mound all the way to St Paul Cathedral in central London 12 miles away. Facilities for disabled guests are provided and opening hours are from 07h00 in Summer and 07h30 in Winter with closure at dusk.
