The Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton was known as the Provincial Museum of Alberta until Queen Elisabeth II bestowed royal patronage on it during her visit in 2005. The museum highlights the human and natural history of Alberta and its exhibitions spread over 200.000 square foot. Its three galleries feature the Aboriginal Culture, spanning 11.000 years of Native Canadian history and showcasing more than 3000 artefacts, the Wild Alberta Gallery where local animals are shown in replicas of their natural habitat, and the The Natural History Gallery in which visitors take a journey through a billion years and can meet several of the largest bugs on the planet. The museum offers free parking spaces, is fully accessible for wheelchair users and also provides some wheelchairs and pushchairs for visitors.
