Ruisrock festival is one of the biggest music festivals in Finland. The festival is held every year at Ruissalo park in Turku in the beginning of July. The festival lasts for three days and alltogether over 90 000 people visit the festival during these three days. Nowadays Ruisrock is the second oldest music festival in Europe and the oldest in Finland. The very first Ruisrock was held in 1970. During these 30 many international hit bands have performed in the festival, for example Nirvana, Rammstein, Nightwish and HIM. In 2009 the most famous bands in Ruisrock were Faith No More (USA), Slipknot (USA) and The Sounds (SWE). Also the most popular Finnish bands played there during the weekend, for example Children of Bodom, Tehosekoitin and Kotiteollisuus. The festival area is very close to the city centre of Turku, which is easily reachable by plane, train or car from Helsinki or other countries. There is a bus connection from the city to the festival area.
