The Sé Metropolitan Cathedral (Catedral Metropolitana da Sé) is located in Sé Square (Praça da Sé). The square is said to represent ground zero (Marco Zero) - the point from which any location in the state of Sao Paulo is measured. Construction of the square began in 1913 but the Cathedral was only completed 42 years later in 1954. The towers however, were not completed until 1969. The Cathedral is gothic in style, with a height of 11 meters and a width of 46 meters, With towers 92-meters high and a 30-meter high dome; it is the biggest church in São Paulo. The Cathedral is supposed to have a capacity for 8,000 people. The crypt is considered an underground church and houses sculptures by Francisco Leopoldo. The cathedral’s organ is the largest in Latin America, built in 1954 by the Italian firm of Balbiani & Rossi. The Cathedral is open during the week from 8.00am till 5.00pm Mass is at 12.00pm. On Sunday opening hours are from 8.00am till 18.30pm Mass services are at 9.00am, 11.00am and 5.00pm.
