A wrong diagnosis made by a village doctor who declared to ill young girls as “bewitched” and an outbreak of small pox during which girls called out the names of the persons who had “cursed” them lead to the famous Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Within a short time hundreds where incarcerated and 19 persons where hanged following their trials while a further 19 died in prisson. A display of life size figures, lighting and sound brings the witch hunt and the trials back to life. The figures tell the stories of persons involved, headphones in several languages are available. A separate exhibition highlights all aspects of witchcraft and witch hunts from the 17th century until modern times. Opening times: 10 am - 5 pm daily; extended opening hours until 7 pm in July and August Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
