Situated on the southeastern end Indonesia’s island of Bali, Sanur is one of the area’s first beach resorts. Before Sanur boosted Indonesian tourism, there were only three hotels on the island. Rich in history, Sanur features five stunning kilometres of coastline, where you’ll likely spot the town’s iconic and colourful fishing boats. When the skies are clear, you can spot Nusa Penida Island and Mount Agung from the beach.

Choose Spring or Summer to Avoid Sanur’s Monsoon Season

It’s best to visit Sanur from May to September, as the rest of the months are considered monsoon season. However, despite the rain and unpredictable Bali weather during that time, the Christmas and Easter holidays is when the island peaks for tourism.

There’s More to Explore Beyond the Beaches of Sanur

While a dip in the turquoise waters is a definite do on a trip to Sanur, there is much more to this town than you think.

The main street of the city, Jl Danau Tamblingan, lies just behind the beachfront resorts. Here, you will find many shops, restaurants and bars.

If you’re an art lover, make sure to pay a visit to Museum Le Mayeur, which is the ex-home of Adrien Jean Le Mayeur de Merpres, a famous Belgian artist. His best works are featured here. Afterwards, make sure to check out the beach art market, which is hosted nearby the museum.

For a unique and unforgettable experience, stroll through though the Taman Festival Bali, an abandoned amusement park. This modern ghost town is quite popular with photographers and general visitors, and its ambience is said to be bewitching.
