Shepherd of the Hills Historic Homestead and Old Mill Outdoor Theatre (Branson, USA)

The Shepherd of the Hills Homestead is regarded as the very spot where the tourism industry in Branson has its origins. Harold Bell Wright’s novel drew thousands of tourists to the town before tourism was regarded as an industry. They came to see the homestead of J.K. and Anna Ross (Old Matt and Aunt Mollie in Wright’s novel), who both play main roles in the autobiographic novel. Today you can visit the site where the writer met the persons he describes in his novel, see Old Matts cabin and outbuildings, watch the nightly performances of the drama at the theatre or listen to the Sons of the Pioneers at the Chuckwagon Dinner Show. Take a jeep-drawn tram for a guided tour of the homestead or take one of the two glass elevators that lead to the observation deck of the Inspiration Tower to enjoy the panoramic views over the Ozarks. Special events are being held throughout the year and a gift shop can be found on-site. The entrance to the homestead is free but rides, theatre and show have individual entrance fees and opening hours. For information and ticket reservation please visit the website.
