Tennessee State Capitol (Nashville, USA)

The Tennessee State Capitol was built by William Strickland in the style of a Greek Ionic temple. The construction works lasted from 1845 to 1859 and when the architect Mr Strickland died 5 years before the completion of his work he was entombed in the north-east wall of the Capitol. Today the State Capitol is home to the legislative of Tennessee and the office of the governor of the state. There are statues in honour of Presidents Andrew Jackson and Andrew Johnson and the grave of President James K. Polk and his wife can also be found on the grounds of the Capitol. It is possible to take a guided tour.Tours are being held from Monday through Friday every hour from 9 am to 3 pm and start at the Information Desk on the first floor.
