Texas State Capitol (Austin, USA)

The Texas State Capitol in Austin, Texas is the largest State Capitol building in the United States. The building is featured in the National Register of Historic Places and is recognized as a National Historic Landmark. The building was designed by Elijah E. Myers and completed in 1888; it is the fourth building in Texas to serve as the state’s seat of government. The dome of the building can be seen from many points throughout Austin, and these views are protected by state law. Seventeen historic monuments can be found scattered across the 22-acre grounds that surround the building. Visitors are welcome to embark on self-guided tours of these grounds, and a visitor centre is located in the southeast corner. Parking is available in metered spaces and in a designated parking garage (located at 1201 San Jacinto). Parking in the garage is free for the first two hours.
