This path follows the former railway line that ran from Havant to Hayling Island and was known as the Hayling Billy Line. It is off road and suitable for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. In fine, dry weather, wheelchairs would be able to use the path. The official start is at Havant railway station, but it is also possible to take the Hayling ferry from Portsmouth and start at the other end, which is at the junction of Sinah Lane and Station Road in Hayling’s West Town. The walk is of interest to bird watchers as it offers views over Langstone Harbour with its wading birds and wildfowl. In winter it is possible to see dunlin, oyster catchers and brent geese. Where the path goes further inland, the hedgerows offer sights of willow warblers and whitethroats in summer. Butterflies such as the common blue, wall brown and gatekeeper may also be seen. It is not necessary to complete the whole of the coastal path, as walkers can take buses from Hayling Island to Havant. There are several places along the route to stop for refreshment, such as the Spring Arts Centre in Havant, the Royal Oak pub or the Ship Inn in Langstone, and other pubs and cafes on Hayling Island.
