The Royal Botanic Gardens (Sydney, Australia)

The Royal Botanic Gardens are located south of the Sydney Harbour, just a short walk east from the Sydney Opera House. There are three major botanical gardens open to the public in Sydney of which the Royal Gardens are most centrally located. Australia’s oldest scientific institution was established in 1816 at the site of Australia’s first vegetable patch. It features over a million specimens, spread over more than 30 hectares in area, arranged in theme collections. Within the gardens visitors will find the Herb Garden, the Fernery, a formal Rose Garden, Succulent Garden, as well as an Oriental Garden and a special section with rare and threatened plants of the world. The gardens are also a home to the Sydney Tropical Centre. The gardens offer guided walks every day at 10.30am, except on public holidays, as well as a scenic tour by trackless train. Wheelchair access is provided, except along steep paths and in stepped areas. Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney are open to the public at 6.30 am throughout the year, except on Christmas Day and Good Friday. Entry to the gardens is free.
