The Tampa Riverwalk (Tampa, USA)
The river which runs through the center of Tampa was named by the Marquis of Downshire in the eighteenth century for his ancestral home, Hillsborough Castle in Belfast. Since 1975 the City of Tampa has been pursuing a plan to give general and public access to the waterfront and to regenerate the downtown areas of the City. The Tampa Riverwalk is a pedestrian walkway and cycle route extending two and a half miles along the eastern bank of the Hillsborough River from the Channelside district. It links parks, open spaces and other leisure and cultural facilities and is bounded by shops, restaurants and hotel accommodation. It is being decorated with statuary and other works of art and is also used as a stage for events on the river. Access: Free, 24 hours a day Wheelchair friendly HARTline buses run a regular service to the Channelside District and the Convention Centre The TECO trolley terminates at the Convention Centre Parking is available at the lot next to the St. Pete Times Forum
