Victoria Street Market (Durban, South Africa)
The current Victoria Street Market dates from the eighties and is a replacement of the original Indian Market which dated from approximately 1910 and was destroyed by fire in 1973. The two-storey building features Indian minarets and offers underground parking. The market has more than 170 stalls which offer a range of African and Oriental products with a strong emphasis on Indian spices and incense. The ground floor is dedicated to a fish and seafood market and also offers fresh meat, fruit, vegetables and spices. The top floor offers more conventional shopping for souvenirs, crafts, jewelry and fabrics. Opening hours are daily from 08h00 to 17h00, except on Sundays when it is from 10h00 to 15h00. The Warwick Junction Market is nearby and focuses primarily on traditional African herbs and medicinal compounds (muthi).
